PeterLicht, Gustav and Thomas Meinecke at the poesiefestival berlin

On 24 June 2011, the 12th poesiefestival berlin will be devoted to songwriting as a literary form.

Songwriters demonstrate in impressive ways that it is not just their music, but also their lyrics that deserve to be listened to. PeterLicht, Gustav and Thomas Meinecke, three of the best proponents of the current German-language pop scene, will be taking part in the poesiefestival berlin on 24 June 2011. They are living proof that you can dance to good lyrics too. Earlier in the day, a colloquium will be discussing the tensions between song lyrics and poetry.
The poesiefestival berlin, organised by the Literaturwerkstatt Berlin, will be taking place from 17 – 24 June 2011 in cooperation with the Academy of the Arts.

PeterLicht is a poet and prose and theatre writer, and is also one of the most dazzling musicians on the German-language pop scene. His fourth studio album is being released in the autumn of 2011, and his appearance at the poesiefestival berlin in an exclusive duo line-up will include material from the forthcoming album.
Gustav composes and produces songs on her laptop, plays every instrument imaginable and sings with a power that spellbinds audiences. She will be performing solo at the poesiefestival berlin.
Musician, writer and DJ Thomas Meinecke has been awarded many prizes, most recently the Karl-Sczuka Prize for Radio Drama as Radio Art in 2008. With his band F.S.K. he has released more than a dozen albums, and his collected song lyrics have been published in book form by Suhrkamp. At the poesiefestival berlin Meinecke will be performing unaccompanied, at the threshold between reading and concert.
Before the concert by these three musicians, an interdisciplinary colloquium of distinguished participants will be discussing fundamental questions around the relationship between lyrics and poetry. Critics, a record label owner, singer-songwriters and writers will be discussing the relationship between poetry, song lyrics, performance and music.
