Lawrence Schiller’s Marilyn & Me | |||||||||
Marilyn forever! — On occasion of its 65th birthday, the Cannes film
festival pays tribute de Marilyn Monroe by choosing her as its poster girl for
2012. As one of the greatest of Hollywood’s icons, she has been featured in
every magazine and newspaper across the globe fifty years after her premature
death and “reincarnated” in the recent movie My Week with Marilyn. You
think you have heard, read and seen all about her. But the worldwide launch in
May of TASCHEN’s Limited Edition Marilyn & Me: A Memoir in Words
and Photographs by Lawrence Schiller is a true
editorial event. Lawrence Schiller’s story has never been told before. He tells
it with tact, humour and compassion. Step into Marilyn Monroe’s intimacy at the
time when the movie Something’s Got to Give was being shot. More than a
hundred extraordinary photographs – sexy, sparkling and moving – from two of her
final films, most of them never seen before, contribute to this unexpected,
poignant portrait of Marilyn Monroe that you will read straight through to the
end without stopping. Lawrence Schiller is one of the four photographers still alive who has immortalized Marilyn Monroe. In 1973, Schiller collaborated with Norman Mailer and twenty-four of the world’s foremost photographers on the world-wide best-selling book Marilyn, which sold 6 million copies in 16 languages. Since then, he has never published another story about the star, and never before in his own words. Lawrence Schiller will be touring in Europe from May 16 for the opening of two exhibitions and the launch of Marilyn & Me to meet the press and the public in Cannes, Brussels, Paris, Berlin and London. Book signings and launches are scheduled from May 29 in the US in New York, Miami and Los Angeles. This trip crowns Lawrence Schiller’s emblematic career as a photojournalist, film director and best-selling author.
