Das 13. poesiefestival berlin reist durch die poetischen Welten entlang des Nils, erkundet die Dichtkunst Brasiliens und bringt die Dichter Europas an die Spree. Vom 1. – 9. Juni 2012 präsentiert die Literaturwerkstatt Berlin einige der klangvollsten Stimmen der Gegenwartslyrik in der Akademie der Künste am Hanseatenweg und verbindet Dichtung mit Film, Performance und Musik.
Mit dabei sind u.a. Ken Babstock (Kanada), Horácio Costa (Brasilien), Erdmöbel (Deutschland), Nikola Madzirov (Mazedonien), Neema Ngwatilo Mawiyoo (Kenia), Fátima Miranda (Spanien), Hama Tuma (Äthiopien), Michael Palmer (USA), Monika Rinck (Deutschland), Dirceu Villa
(Brasilien) und Yan Jun (China).

Eröffnet wird das Festival traditionell mit Weltklang – Nacht der Poesie, einer lyrischen Weltvermessung, ausgehend von den Fixpunkten internationaler Dichtkunst.
Der Nil, die Lebensader Afrikas, verbindet versunkene Hochkulturen mit quirligen Millionenstädten, vom Krieg verwüstete Gegenden mit Touristenoasen. Künstler aus den Anrainerstaaten erzählen die Geschichte des Flusses auf Amharisch, Suahili, Arabisch und Bari.
In kaum einem anderen Land prallen so viele poetische Vorstellungen aufeinander wie in Brasilien. Die Übersetzungswerkstatt VERSschmuggel taucht ein in eine faszinierende Dichtung, die ihre Kraft und Inspiration aus unterschiedlichen Quellen schöpft, von der konkreten Poesie der Avantgarden über die afro-brasilianischen Erzähltraditionen und Songwriting bis zur visuellen Poesie.
Europa sucht nach dem Ausweg aus seiner schwersten Krise seit dem Ende des Kalten Krieges. Aber diese Suche ist auch eine Suche nach der eigenen Identität und den eigenen Werten. In einem Renshi
(Kettengedicht) entspannt sich ein poetischer Diskurs zwischen 28 jungen Dichter aus den Ländern der Europäischen Union und ihrer Sicht auf den Kontinent.
Das Festival schließt ab mit einem großen Lyrikmarkt zum Stöbern, Suchen und Entdecken, voller poetischer Raritäten und Überraschungen, mit einem Bühnenprogramm für Fans, Freunde und Familien.

River of words: poesiefestival berlin 2012

The 13th poesiefestival berlin will be travelling through the poetic worlds along the Nile, exploring the poetry of Brazil and bringing the poets of Europe to the Spree. From 1 to 9 June 2012, the Literaturwerkstatt Berlin will be presenting some of the most resonant voices of contemporary poetry in the Academy of the Arts in Berlin’s Hanseatenweg or combining poetry with film, performance and music.
Featured poets include Ken Babstock (Canada), Horácio Costa (Brazil), Erdmöbel (Germany), Nikola Madzirov (Macedonia), Neema Ngwatilo Mawiyoo (Kenya), Fátima Miranda (Spain), Hama Tuma (Ethiopia), Michael Palmer (USA), Monika Rinck (Germany), Dirceu Villa (Brazil) and Yan Jun (China).

The festival is traditionally opened with the event Weltklang – Night of Poetry, a survey of the world in poetry starting from some of the fixed points of the international scene.
The Nile, Africa’s lifeline, links vanished civilisations with teeming metropoles with millions of inhabitants, regions torn apart by war with tourist oases. Artists from the countries along the river will be telling of its history in Amharic, Swahili, Arabic and Bari.
There is hardly another country where so many poetic strategies collide with each other as they do in Brazil. The ReVERSible
(VERSschmuggel) translation workshop will be plunging into a fascinating poetic melange that draws its power and inspiration from many different sources ranging from avant-garde Concrete Poetry to Afro-Brazilian narrative tradition and songwriting to visual poetry.
Europe is looking for a way out of its most serious crisis since the end of the Cold War, but this is also a search for its own identity and its own values. In a renshi (chain poem), 28 young poets from the countries of the European Union will be engaging in a discourse in poetry and giving their view of the continent.
The festival will close with a big poetry market for browsing, searching and discovery, full of poetic rarities and surprises, with a programme of stage events for fans, friends and families.
